Our Read

ComfortBilt sells direct and through big-box retailers, and the HP22 is the model that shows up most often in r/PelletStoveTalk threads. The same EPA listing covers the HP22N and the HP22i insert.

Unlike the Harman and PelPro pages, ComfortBilt’s maximum output matches the EPA listing exactly at 40,689 BTU/hr, and its 80.5% efficiency lines up with EPA’s 81% HHV. The low end is a different story: ComfortBilt says 9,696 BTU/hr, while EPA’s tested minimum is 12,820.

The 2,800 sq ft rating is the stretch. That’s about 14.5 BTU/hr of tested output per square foot, which only works in a well-insulated house or a mild climate.

Bottom line: Good certified numbers for the price. Trust the 40,689 BTU/hr maximum; be skeptical of 2,800 sq ft.

What We Haven't Checked

  • Which of the two prices on the comparison page is the current selling price.
  • Real-world output in your house, which depends on wood moisture, chimney draft and how you run the stove. Nobody's lab number covers that.
