Our Read
HearthStone lines the Green Mountain 60’s firebox with soapstone, which soaks up heat and gives it back slowly. That’s the “HeatLife” figure on the product page: 24 hours of warmth from the stone, which is different from a 24-hour burn.
On the certification side, EPA lists the 8660 at 12,608 to 33,576 BTU/hr, 79% HHV and 0.6 g/hr. The product page’s “up to 60,000 BTU” is a cordwood figure, and the 2,000 sq ft rating works out to about 17 BTU/hr of tested output per square foot.
EPA also lists a Green Mountain 60-1 (model 8661) with slightly higher output and 81% efficiency. We couldn’t confirm which version dealers are shipping now, so check the label on the back of the stove.
Bottom line: A good fit for steady, gentle heat in a mid-size space, especially if you like soapstone. Treat 60,000 BTU and 2,000 sq ft as best-case numbers.
