Advertised vs EPA-Tested Output

BTU/hr. The advertised figure is 36,300 BTU/hr on high for 10 hours (product page); 34,435 BTU/hr (2026 brochure) sourcechecked 2026-10-21 The EPA range is the tested low and high burn rate from the Princess PE32 listing (11,358–34,435 BTU/hr EPAchecked 2026-10-21 ). Why the numbers differ.

Our Read

The Princess is the stove people on r/woodstoving and hearth.com mean when they talk about “low and slow”. A bimetal thermostat trims the air as the stove heats up, and the catalytic combustor keeps the burn clean at low output, so a full load can idle for most of a day.

The certification numbers back that up. EPA lists the PE32 at 82% overall efficiency on the higher heating value basis, which only one other wood stove line in the database beats, and 0.55 g/hr of particulate, under a third of the 2.0 g/hr crib wood limit. The tested output runs from 11,358 to 34,435 BTU/hr. Blaze King’s product page still shows 36,300 BTU/hr from an earlier listing; the current brochure has the right figure.

Its 1,200 to 2,500 sq ft rating is generous next to a 34,435 BTU/hr ceiling. In a cold climate or a leaky house, plan on the bottom half of that range or step up to the King KE40.

Bottom line: The pick for long, steady burns from a mid-size firebox, with one of the highest tested efficiencies on file. Size it by the EPA output, not the top of the square-footage range.

Maker Claims vs the EPA Listing

Heat output: maker says

"Constant heat output on high 36,300 BTU's per hour for 10 hours" on the product page Blaze King product page

On file

34,435 BTU/hr maximum in the current EPA listing; the September 2026 brochure also says 34,435 EPA listing

Our read

The product page still carries the figure from an earlier certification. The brochure and the EPA listing agree on 34,435 BTU/hr, which is the number to size with.

Heat input: maker says

"Maximum heat input 473,811 BTUs" Blaze King brochure (09-2026)

On file

That is the energy in a full firebox of wood, not an hourly rate Blaze King brochure (09-2026)

Our read

Don't compare it with hourly BTU ratings. It describes how much fuel the box holds, which is why the burn times are long.

Efficiency: maker says

82% "real world efficiency, as listed by the EPA" Blaze King brochure (09-2026)

On file

82% HHV weighted average across four burn rates in the 2024 test report; 83.9% at the lowest burn rate and 75.4% at the highest PE32 certification test report

Our read

Matches the listing, and it is quoted on the stricter HHV basis. Only one wood stove line in the database lists more (83%).

Brochure table: maker says

"Heat output on low, BTUs 34,435 (EPA listed)" Blaze King brochure (09-2026)

On file

11,358 BTU/hr is the EPA low figure EPA listing

Our read

A typo in the 2026 brochure's Princess table; the King-and-Princess comparison table on a later page has the right low number.

What We Haven't Checked

  • Current list price (sold through dealers; no price on the maker's site).
  • Maximum log length for side-to-side loading.
  • Real-world output in your house, which depends on wood moisture, chimney draft and how you run the stove. Nobody's lab number covers that.
